Whether above or below the water, being in the ocean is my favorite place to be. It's pure connection, back to the place of origin. Becoming one with the waves and holding my breath underwater both suspend a long-assumed terrestrial dependance and frees the mind and body to experience, once again, its original state.
For thousands of years Freediving, or breath-hold diving has provided man with a means of sustinance and sport. Today athletes, underwater hunters and those who wish not only to see, but feel what lies below, train to induce the mammalian diving reflexes left over from our origins in the sea. By doing so we are able to achieve incredible performances in time, depth and distance.
As a former Canadian national team member, record holder and now international judge, I am blessed with the opportunity to train and dive with some of the worlds very best. The experiences continue to be both deep and meaningful as with each dive I re-member a little more of where I came from.
